SK Gab Lopez Officially Joins UNESCO MIL Alliance

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has officially approved the membership of Gabriel Matthew “Gab” Lopez, Sangguniang Kabataan Chairperson of Barangay Kanluran Kabubuhayan, to the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Alliance.

In an email confirmation sent today, the UNESCO MIL Team congratulated Lopez, noting that his application has been successfully completed and approved. He now joins a global network of networks dedicated to advancing Media and Information Literacy across more than 100 countries.

The UNESCO MIL Alliance serves as a platform for international cooperation, empowering individuals and organizations to promote critical thinking, combat disinformation, and strengthen democratic participation in the digital era.

“Becoming a member of the UNESCO MIL Alliance is both an honor and a responsibility. It is an opportunity to bring our local youth-led initiatives into the global conversation on media and information literacy, ensuring that young people are equipped to navigate the digital world responsibly,” Lopez said.

As a member, SK Gab is expected to contribute his grassroots experiences in digital rights advocacy, youth empowerment, and policy innovation to the Alliance’s collective efforts worldwide.

This milestone further cements Lopez’s role as both a local leader and a global advocate, representing the Philippines in advancing media and information literacy for all.
